Brecon Pharmaceuticals help raise career awareness for Christ College Students
At a recent careers awareness day, students from Christ College in Brecon took part in an interactive presentation from Hay-on-Wye based Brecon Pharmaceuticals Ltd, which highlighted the variety of jobs available within the business.
At a recent careers awareness day, students from Christ College were invited to try on some of the specialist protective clothing, worn by employees working in Brecon Pharmaceuticals' packaging production area.
Brecon's Customer Relations Co-ordinator Rebekka Peterson (1st from right) and Personnel Officer Pauline Tarrant (2nd from right) presented to over 40 students who were keen to find out more about the variety of career opportunities the company has available from engineering through to analytical work.
Brecon currently employs over 250 staff and is set to take on a further 100 employees during the next few years due to a major new expansion of its facilities which will double the size of its operation in Hay.
The emphasis of the College's Careers Day was on ‘hands on’ involvement and the Brecon team made sure the students had fun while taking part in activities which reflected the kind of tasks carried out by Brecon's employees.
Students were invited to try on some of the specialist protective clothing, which is worn by employees who work in Brecon's packaging production area. The students were shown some of the strict procedures which employees have to follow to ensure Brecon achieves the highest standards of cleanliness for its customers, which include some of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies.
Brecon’s Personnel Officer, Pauline Tarrant was delighted with the enthusiasm shown by the students during the presentation. She said, “The students were keen to find out what type of employment opportunities are available in the company and they were surprised by the wide range of roles available in the business from administration through to analytical laboratory work. Many were keen to find out even more and are interested in carrying out work experience with Brecon in the future."
Head of Careers at Christ College, Grant Wolstenholme believes the students were given an excellent insight into the wide variety of career opportunities that are available in the region. He said, "We were delighted that leading employers such as Brecon Pharmaceuticals took part in our Careers Awareness Day which highlighted that there are good career opportunities in the area which will mean they don't have to leave the region to find employment in the future."
