High School Visit to Brecon proves a real education

A group of Year 9 pupils from Brecon High School visited Hay-on-Wye packaging specialists Brecon Pharmaceuticals, to learn more about the company’s success and to understand how the company is run.

The pupils, who are currently undertaking a project on Brecon as part of their career studies, wanted to learn more about the variety of jobs carried out within the company. Brecon currently employs over 230 staff and is set to take on a further 100 employees during the next year of expansion.

To ensure the highest standards of cleanliness were maintained, the teenagers had to wear specialist protective clothing as they toured the state-of-the-art production facilities at Brecon, which is acknowledged as one of the leading companies in the specialist pharmaceutical packaging sector.

Brecon’s Personnel Officer, Pauline Tarrant was delighted with the visit as she felt the group really enjoyed the experience and found it very beneficial. She said, “As a major employer in the area the youngsters were keen to find out what type of employment opportunities are available here. Many youngsters in the region believe they have to move away from the area to develop a career and we were able to demonstrate the variety of opportunities we have within the business. We hope we can do more such visits in the future.”
